African Hoodia

AFRICAN HOODIA WORKS TO CURB HUNGER

Hoodia is a plant that is native to South Africa. It was first discovered by a Dutch researcher who noticed that certain African tribes were taking Hoodia along with them on their trips across semi-arid african_hoodiadesert regions. The Hoodia plant helped these tribes make it across harsh desert regions with out hunger or thirst as they tracked along to their final destination.

It became the thought or idea of this Dutch researcher that the Hoodia plant maybe had possibilities for weight problems in modern culture. After all, if the Hoodia plant could disguise hunger across the desert people, what could it do for overweight people living in Western civilized society? This question has been answered yet and again and has been featured on popular United States news shows such as Sixty minutes and the Today Show.

While African Tribes People knew all about the powers of thier own native African Hoodia, it would take modern science decades later (2001) and a very expensive scientific clinical study to confirm that Hoodia indeed did help with weight loss.

The subjects in the double blind controlled clinical study ate one thousand fewer calories per day, experienced no hunger or other side effects, and began loosing weight by leaps and bounds. The active hunger-suppressing ingredient in Hoodia was label P57 by a British pharmaceutical company. A diet revolution had begun. All would agree that the problem with most weight loss plans was that most felt hungry while trying to follow a weight loss diet. African Hoodia took care of that problem and left dieters feeling satiated.

Seeing an incredible money making opportunity, the American drug company Pfizer bought the rights to the African Hoodia extract. Unfortunately, Pfizer had no intention of making the natural extract available to the public. What they were interested in was making a synthetic version of the natural extract that they could market and patent.

Why not sell the natural form they had purchased the rights to? It is against the law in almost all countries to patent natural products. Therefore, it is hard for a major company like Pfizer to make a buck off them. However, if you can make a synthetic drug version, you can patent that and make tens of millions. This is why the local doctors' office never gives you natural solutions for your troubles. There simply is no money to be made from natural products.

Getting real South Africa Desert Hoodia is difficult these days. The deal between Phytofarm and Pfizer fell through. However, another was cooking through the big corporate giant, Unilever. They desired to use Hoodia in their Slim Fast weight loss line of products. It is important to note that Phytofarm does have patent on the extraction of the natural compound in Hoodia that squashes feelings of hunger. It also important to note that for Hoodia to have its appetite suppressant effects, it MUST be real African Hoodia grown in the South African Kalahari Desert.
